How to Read Tournament Bracket Rules and Formats

When browsing our catalog, you will encounter various tournament structures. Understanding these is key to preparing your roster for the specific workload and competitive pressure of the event.

The Swiss System

Featured in events like the Toronto Tactical Invitational, the Swiss system is a non-eliminating tournament format that features a predetermined number of rounds of competition. You play teams with a similar running score. It's excellent for providing a guaranteed number of matches for all entrants without the brutal brevity of single-elimination. It heavily favors consistent teams over a long day of play.

Double Elimination

A staple in fighting games and tactical shooters like the North American Ignition Series CA. Teams must lose two series before being eliminated. The 'Upper Bracket' provides a safety net, while the 'Lower Bracket' demands long, grueling runs to reach the Grand Finals. Stamina and mental fortitude are crucial here.

Round Robin Leagues

Used in multi-week events like the Summoner's Rift Maple Cup. Every team plays every other team in their group. This format rewards deep strategy, counter-stratting specific opponents, and consistency over weeks rather than peaking on a single day.

Points-Based Lobbies

Standard for Battle Royales like the Outlands Drop Zone Challenge. Teams earn points for placement (survival) and kills (eliminations) across multiple drops in custom lobbies. The ruleset dictating the ratio of placement-to-kill points drastically shifts how teams must rotate and engage.

Always review the official rulebook linked on the tournament detail page to understand tie-breaker scenarios and technical pause allowances.
